New analysis led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) suggests that the relative slowdown in global air temperature rises during the past decade may have been caused in part by the planet’s deep oceans.
Scientists from NCAR and the Bureau of Meteorology in Australia claim that the oceans at times may absorb enough heat to flatten the rate of global warming for periods of as long as a decade even in the midst of longer-term warming.
You see? Anthropogenic global warming is still happening, but is being hidden by a natural process....wait, a natural process is hiding it? Could it possibly be that natural processes have caused the vast majority of perceived warming since the end of the last cool period, the Little Ice Age?
The study, based on computer simulations of global climate, points to ocean layers deeper than 1,000 feet (300 meters) as the main location of the “missing heat” during periods such as the past decade when global air temperatures showed little trend. The findings also suggest that several more intervals like this can be expected over the next century, even as the trend toward overall warming continues.
Uh huh. Computer simulations. How about some hard data?
NCAR’s Gerald Meehl, lead author of the study said: “We will see global warming go through hiatus periods in the future. However, these periods would likely last only about a decade or so, and warming would then resume. This study illustrates one reason why global temperatures do not simply rise in a straight line.”
See? It’s so easy: they’ve found a way to say globull warming is real, it’s Mankind’s fault, it’s just that the oceans are hiding the effects. This way, they can continue pushing their cult (and getting research grants).
To track where the heat was going, Meehl and colleagues used a powerful software tool known as the Community Climate System Model, which was developed by scientists at NCAR and the Department of Energy with colleagues at other organizations. Using the model’s ability to portray complex interactions between the atmosphere, land, oceans, and sea ice, they performed five simulations of global temperatures.
The simulations, which were based on projections of future greenhouse gas emissions from human activities, indicated that temperatures would rise by several degrees during this century. But each simulation also showed periods in which temperatures would stabilize for about a decade before climbing again. For example, one simulation showed the global average rising by about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit (1.4 degrees Celsius) between 2000 and 2100, but with two decade-long hiatus periods during the century.
So, no actual hard data? No measurements of the deep oceans to see if this is actually happening? You know, I love playing 1st person shooters, but, I am under no illusion that they make me a badass warrior capable of wiping out thousands of enemies a day. I’d actually have to go out and train in the real world. The “science” of climate change seems to always ignore the real world.
This study is simply a follow up to the one by Kevin “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at this moment and it is a travesty that we can’t” Trenberth that attempted to say that the warming was playing Where’s Waldo and hiding from us. Because it must be hiding! It couldn’t possibly be that decades of alarmist hysteria was based on a false notion (stamps foot)!

On Wednesday, September 14, Al Gore commenced a 24-hour global web broadcast titled “Climate Reality” to “reveal the complete truth about the climate crisis.” Mr. Gore’s introductory video clip stated: “Across the globe, cataclysmic weather events are occurring with such regularity that it’s being called ‘a new normal.’”
Maggie L. Fox, President and CEO of the Climate Reality project, and I were scheduled for an on-air discussion on the topic of climate change on Jim Bohannon’s nationally syndicated radio program on Wednesday night. But Mark Chace, Bohannon’s producer, received a communication on Wednesday afternoon cancelling the planned appearance of Ms. Fox. It appears that Ms. Fox did not want to debate climate change with a climate skeptic, under the guise of being “too busy.”
This is not a “new normal” for Al Gore and his team. For years, Mr. Gore has refused to debate anyone who believed climate change to be due to natural causes, rather than man-made causes as proposed by the theory of Climatism. Mr. Gore and Ms. Fox can deliver a multi-million dollar global media event, but they refuse to engage in an open give-and-take discussion on climate change.

The whole premise of “Climate Reality,” is that weather events are now abnormal and must be caused by mankind. Al Gore and his team point to every storm, drought, flood, and forest fire and announce that these are due to man-made greenhouse gas emissions. This is a modern example of superstitious thinking.
In the not-too-distant past of Renaissance Europe, individuals accused of witchcraft were executed for weather-related “crimes.” Dr. Emily Oster of Harvard University estimates that between the thirteenth and nineteenth centuries as many as one million people in Europe were executed for the crime of witchcraft. Dr. Oster states:
“The most active period of the witchcraft trials coincides with a period of lower than average temperature known to climatologists as the “little ice age”...In a time period when the reasons for changes in weather were largely a mystery, people would have searched for a scapegoat in the face of deadly changes in weather patterns.
‘Witches’ became target for blame because there was an existing cultural framework that both allowed their persecution and suggested that they could control the weather.”
Are we so different today? Catastrophic warnings from computer models have replaced the oracles of the past. The new witches of our modern society are the coal and oil companies. Mr. Gore and the priests of Climatism tell us that by destroying our industrial society, we can now control the weather and stop the rise of the seas.
This summer, our news media carried story after story on “record temperatures in the U.S.” Yet, according to data from the National Climatic Data Center, not a single state high temperature record has been broken this year. Only one state high temperature record was broken in the decade from 2000-2009, the state record for South Dakota. Twenty-two of the 50 state record high temperatures were set back in the 1930s.
Despite Al Gore’s claims of abnormally severe weather, global tropical storm activity remains near a 30-year low. Irene delivered huge amounts of rain to the Atlantic states, but was only a tropical storm according to measured wind speed when it hit the North Carolina coast. No Category 3 hurricane has made U.S. landfall since 2005. To find the last 5-year period without a Category 3 hit on the U.S., we need to go back to 1910-1914.
The “new normal” is not reality, but only an amplified level of alarm from Al Gore and Climatism.

Question: Who said the following?
“Climate change is not your fault for the car you drive, the lights you turn on, or the food you eat.” The CEO of Exxon Mobil? Republican Gov. Rick Perry? George Bush? Stephen Harper? Sarah Palin? The League of Extraordinary Climate Deniers?
Nope. It was green mega-millionaire Al Gore, no doubt well on his way to becoming the world’s first carbon billionaire.
So be sure to clip that quotation out and post it on your (not responsible for climate change, either) fridge and freezer.
I read this startling new information on the home page of Gore’s latest 24-hour “Climate Reality Project”, which started Wednesday evening on the web, prelude, no doubt, to his never-ending speaking tours (Toronto stop, Oct. 13, Roy Thomson Hall, tickets now on sale).
All this as Gore continues to wing and SUV his way around the planet, leading a high-consumption, luxury lifestyle and a carbon footprint in his wake that would choke a dinosaur.
In addition to his many green investments, Gore has become a mini-industry - a never-ending fount of books, movies, web projects and speechifying - where his latest hot air eruption was to describe climate skeptics as comparable to racists in the U.S. south in the 1950s. Nice.
Gore’s “it’s not your fault” quotation is odd, because it’s out of character for his green acolytes, who do indeed blame you (but not themselves) for causing climate change by driving, eating and using electricity, and who generally don’t like humanity very much. Or rather, they love humanity. It’s just people they can’t stand.
That is, they blame you (but not themselves), if you live in the developed world, like Canada, or the U.S. If you live in the developing world, like China or India, you get a free pass from Gore’s salvation road show.
My guess is Gore has figured out blaming people for, um, living, and doing terrible things to the planet like heating their homes in winter in Winnipeg, is a downer when it comes to fundraising.
So now, Gore’s offering us an easy way out.
As he informs us in his Climate Reality video, hey, we’re not responsible for polluting the Earth (whew!) ‹ it’s those big, bad oil and coal companies that have hidden the truth about climate change.
So all you have to do is sign up and make a donation to Gore’s traveling salvation road show and you can drive, eat and flick those lights on and off with a clear conscience.
Because you’re not responsible for climate change.
Just one catch.
Pricing carbon
What Gore is really trying to do is get governments around the world to put a price on carbon dioxide emissions, either through a carbon tax or a cap-and-trade market, a carbon tax by another name.
And if he ever succeeds, he’s going to be even richer than he is now. Way richer.
And you? You’ll be paying a lot more to drive your car, light your home and eat your food, making you poorer.
Then again, the poor are the greatest environmentalists on Earth.
Since they don’t buy or eat much, live in high-density rental housing, walk or take public transit and don’t drive or fly, their carbon footprints are tiny.
