GRACE - Clueless AGW Science By Steven Goddard, Real Science

Last November, the headlines read “NASA Satellites Detect Unexpected Ice Loss in East Antarctica”

Remarkably, they claimed that ice was disappearing at a rapid rate from an area of East Antarctica (500 km from the coast) - where the temperature never gets anywhere close to the melting point.

In any other field of science, this would have been recognized immediately as - let’s say “ignorant.” Incredibly ignorant.

But not in the world of climate science. It seemed that every AGW proponent from Hansen on down bought into it - even though it obviously wasn’t correct.

It took me about 10 seconds to realize what they had likely done wrong - they didn’t account properly for changes in the elevation of the ground underneath the ice. And finally in September, 2010 they admitted their mistake.

As researcher Bert Vermeersen, a professor at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, told the AFP, the earlier estimates failed to account for glacial isostatic adjustment-the rebounding of the Earth’s crust after the end of the last Ice Age.

If they can’t get the most fundamental rules of science straight, how can we expect them to get the right answer to complex problems?

Ice does not melt at -25C.

Sea Level Trends Nearly Constant For The Past 100 Years

Over the past five years, sea level has risen at an average of 2 mm/year.

But as you can see, this is mainly due to the El Nino spike. If we look at the four years prior to that, the trend lowers to 1.4 mm/year.

Which is lower than the average rate (2 mm/year) for the last 100 years (enlarged here).

Coldest winter in 1,000 years on its way RT

After the record heat wave this summer, Russia’s weather seems to have acquired a taste for the extreme. Forecasters say this winter could be the coldest Europe has seen in the last 1,000 years.

The change is reportedly connected with the speed of the Gulf Stream, which has shrunk in half in just the last couple of years. Polish scientists say that it means the stream will not be able to compensate for the cold from the Arctic winds. According to them, when the stream is completely stopped, a new Ice Age will begin in Europe.

So far, the results have been lower temperatures: for example, in Central Russia, they are a couple of degrees below the norm.

“Although the forecast for the next month is only 70 percent accurate, I find the cold winter scenario quite likely,” Vadim Zavodchenkov, a leading specialist at the Fobos weather center, told RT. “We will be able to judge with more certainty come November. As for last summer’s heat, the statistical models that meteorologists use to draw up long-term forecasts aren’t able to predict an anomaly like that.”

In order to meet the harsh winter head on, Moscow authorities are drawing up measures to help Muscovites survive the extreme cold.

Most of all, the government is concerned with homeless people who risk freezing to death if the forecast of the meteorologists come true. Social services and police are being ordered to take the situation under control even if they have to force the homeless to take help.

Moscow authorities have also started checking air conditioning systems in all socially important buildings. All the conditioners are being carefully cleaned from the remains of summer smog.

Melting Pole Ice threat to ports

In a story titled “Arctic sea ice predicted to disappear” ABC’s World Today program reported on predictions by US Scientists that the Arctic will be ice free in summer in 20 to 30 years time. Of course it’s not the first time such claims have been made, and we suspect it won’t be the last. Here’s a report from 1952 on the same theme, prior to the advent of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming.

There should to be a broad Congressional oversight investigation By Bob Ferguson, SPPI

For a growing catalog of cases of surface temperature record data “fixing” see our extensive 209-page report:Surface Temperature Records: Policy Driven Deception?

“The startling conclusion that we cannot tell whether there was any significant “global warming” at all in the 20th century is based on numerous astonishing examples of manipulation and exaggeration of the true level and rate of “global warming”. That is to say, leading meteorological institutions in the USA and around the world have so systematically tampered with instrumental temperature data that it cannot be safely said that there has been any significant net “global warming” in the 20th century.”

There should to be a broad Congressional oversight investigation into the artificial warming and cooling of NOAA and GISS surface temperature data by government-funded scientists. There must to be a “B Team” of non-governmental scientists and statisticians - similar to the House Wegman Report—to clarify the errors and data manipulations in the government data sets before any policy or regulatory actions are taken or implemented.

Hottest Day on Record in LA area follows second coldest summer and coldest September day in 50 years By Dr. Jeff Masters, Wunderground

Hottest day in Los Angeles history

The mercury hit a blistering 113F (45.0C) at 12:15 pm PDT yesterday in downtown Los Angeles, making it the hottest day in Los Angeles history. It may have gotten hotter, but the thermometer broke shortly after the record high was set. The previous record in Los Angeles was 112F set on June 26, 1990; records go back to 1877. Nearby Long Beach tied its hottest all-time temperature yesterday, with a scorching 111F. And Christopher C. Burt, our new featured blogger on weather records, pointed out to me that Beverly Hills hit 119F yesterday--the hottest temperature ever measured in the Los Angeles area, tying the 119F reading from Woodland Hills on July 22, 2006. Yesterday’s record heat was caused by an unusually large and intense upper-level high pressure system centered over Nevada that generated winds blowing from the land to the ocean, keeping the ocean from exerting its usual cooling influence. Remarkably, Los Angeles had its second coldest summer on record this year, and temperatures just five days ago were some the coldest September temperatures in the region for the past 50 years.

The cold summer was the result of a developing strong La Nina and a persistence of cold water off the west coast.

Robyn Williams Oversteps: Reparation due to Professor Bob Carter By Jennifer Marohasy, BSc, PhD

Anthropogenic global warming (AGW) currently dominates climate science to the extent that many consider it a fact - not a theory. The famous philosopher of science, Thomas Kuhn, would describe AGW as the current dominant paradigm because this is where the majority of professional scientists claim their allegiance. Of course there are dissenters, commonly referred to as sceptics or deniers, and Kuhn would have correctly predict that these individual would be excluded from the scientific community as evidenced in the Climategate emails.

It is particularly evident from the Climategate emails that a group within the scientific community will go to great lengths to deny so-called sceptics the opportunity to publish in the peer-reviewed literature including through the removal of editors and stacking of review committees.

Nevertheless, outspoken sceptic Bob Carter has managed, over his distinguished career to amass a long list of publications in the peer-reviewed literature including publications of direct relevance to climate science in the best international peer-reviewed science journals.

I make specific mention of Professor Carter and his publication record, because today, on the ABC Science Show, it was repeatedly stated that Professor Carter has a very poor publication record.

Robyn Williams’ introduction to the interview explains:

“Bob Ward says those who seek to reinterpret the science of climate change often have minimal publication records. Publication involves peer review. This process weeds out experiments and papers which are sub-standard. By contrast, anyone can write a book, write a newspaper article, or address public meetings. Bob Ward mentions a paper by Bob Carter, saying it contains false quotes and numerous examples of inaccuracy. Bob Ward says the Carter paper is the worst that has ever been published about climate change.”

Worst, in the actual interview not one specific, substantive error of science is raised by Mr Ward, or Mr Williams, to illustrate the general accusation.

While it is generally acknowledged that Mr Williams is hopelessly biased when it comes to the issue of climate change, I felt this malicious treatment of Professor Carter is beyond anything reasonably acceptable on a science show broadcast by the ABC.

While an apology is definitely in order, in addition I suggest that Mr Williams dedicate a show, within the next month or so, to a proper interview with Professor Carter to discuss the science in his new book ‘Climate the Counter Consensus’.

Global Acidification: The Next EU Bought-And-Paid-For Science Hoax By P Gosselin

Now that man-made catastrophic global warming has been exposed as a hyper-inflated problem, proponents are now scrambling to save their movement. Here comes global acidification (sounds much more menacing than climate disruption, doesn’t it?). Expect a flood of sewage media reports on this in the days ahead.

Now that global warming is exposed as a hoax, the EU now wants you to believe in global acidification.

The Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) for Polar and Marine Research in the German Hemholtz Association is hosting a 4-day conference with more than 200 scientists from all over Europe expected to attend at Conference Center Bremerhaven. See details here. The AWI press release is titled:

“Oceans acidify much faster than ever before in Earth’s history”

This conference undoubtedly is designed to produce new, future horror scenarios of oceanic death and destruction. These scenarios will then be avidly spread as science by Europe’s established publicly-funded media. The idea of course is to keep the public in a state of elevated fear, while governments move to regulate every aspect of human life.

“The greenhouse gas carbon dioxide not only leads to global climate warming, but also to increasing acidification of the oceans.” So says the AWI press release, and: “Since the beginning of industrialisation the CO2 absorbed by the sea has led to an increase in surface ocean acidity by 30 percent.
Wait a second.”

There’s a huge difference between ocean surface and ocean, i.e. the complete ocean. But whatever.

“Many marine organisms such as calcareous algae, mussels and snails have difficulties in forming their shells or skeletons. As a result of this, entire ecosystems such as coral reefs may be affected.”

Emphasis added. Don’t you just love how they appear to be so sure about everything, yet admit they actually know almost nothing? But hey, they have begun to study this closely.

“In conjunction with the three large-scale research projects, at national and international level the Alfred Wegener Institute is examining the impacts of ocean acidification, particularly on the biotic communities in the Arctic Ocean.”

The Arctic is again the canary in the coal mine. One partner in research they happen not to mention is the scientifically balanced and objective Greenpeace organisation, read here Research Assisted By Greenpeace.

Much of the research funding comes from global regulator wannabe: The European Union and its European Commission.

The conference sponsors are BIOACID (Biological Impacts of Ocean ACIDification) funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). The Leibniz Institute for Marine Sciences (IFM-GEOMAR) in Kiel is responsible for project coordination and management. Another sponsor is UKOARP (UK Ocean Acidification Research Program) UK’s first research programme, launched in 2010. And the third sponsor is EPOCA (European Project on OCean Acidification) launched in May 2008. It’s a four-year long project and is partly funded by the European Commission.

The European Commission is precisely the body that has been making it clearer than ever that it wants to run the rest of the planet, together with the UN. And what better place to start than with the global airline industry. Right now it is threatening the rest of the world with a flight ban. Read here: EU Threatens World With Flight Ban/.

However, banning flights, along with regulating people’s lives, is bound to be quite unpopular with the masses, unless of course you can produce compelling arguments to do so. Global warming is no longer compelling, and so in comes global acidification - due to carbon emissions.

Vaclev Havel needs to add a couple more chapters to his recent book, and rename it to: “Blue Planet In Green Chains, Forged By White Euro-Elitists”.

Let’s not kid ourselves. This whole environmental movement is a bid by a certain class of elitists in Europe, and America’s east and west coasts, who want to tell the rest of the world what to do. Wasn’t that tried last century?

U.S. Education Secretary Vows to Make American Children ‘Good Environmental Citizens’ By Nicholas Ballasy

(CNSNews.com) - U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan vowed on Tuesday that his department would work to make American children into “good environmental citizens” through federally subsidized school programs beginning as early as kindergarten that teach children about climate change and prepare them “to contribute to the workforce through green jobs.”

“Right now, in the second decade of the 21st century, preparing our children to be good environmental citizens is some of the most important work any of us can do. It’s work that will serve future generations--and quite literally sustain our world,” Duncan said at the Education Department’s “Sustainability Education Summit: Citizenship and Pathways for a Green Economy.”

“This week’s sustainability summit represents the first time that the Department is taking a taking a leadership role in the work of educating the next generation of green citizens and preparing them to contribute to the workforce through green jobs,” said Duncan. ‘President Obama has made clean, renewable energy a priority because, as he says, it’s the best way to ‘truly transform our economy, to protect our security, and save our planet.’

“Educators have a central role in this. A well educated citizen knows that we must not act in this generation in ways that endanger the next,” said Duncan. “They teach students about how the climate is changing. They explain the science behind climate change and how we can change our daily practices to help save the planet. They have a role in preparing students for jobs in the green economy.”

“Historically,” Duncan said, “the Department of Education hasn’t been doing enough to drive the sustainability movement, and today, I promise that we will be a committed partner in the national effort to build a more environmentally literate and responsible society.”
