“Newspapers should think about the damage they are doing to many persons, particularly young kids”

Dr. Wibjorn Karlen, Emeritus Professor, Dept. of Physical Geography and Quaternary Geology, Stockholm University, Sweden

"Newspapers should think about the damage they are doing to many persons, particularly young kids, by spreading the exaggerated views of a human impact on climate .... As far as I can see the IPCC ‘Global Temperature’ is wrong. Temperature is fluctuating but it is still most places cooler than in the 1930s and 1940s ... it will take about 800 years before the water level has increased by one meter”

“Changes in solar irradiation have been the dominant causes of changes in climate. Volcanic eruptions can have caused some cooling events and greenhouse gases may have contributed to the increase in temperature over the last decades. However, the influence of solar variability has been the major forcing factor and will probably also remain so in the future.”

Sea Level Has Not Risen for Three Years - New Monthly SPPI CO2 Report

Compiled by Lord Moncktion, SPPI

SPPI’s authoritative Monthly CO2 Report shows that in recent years global mean sea level, as measured by the JASON satellite, has not risen for three years, probably in response to ocean cooling.

Main points

The University of Colorado, at SPPI’s request, has updated the sea-level data from the JASON satellite to the end of 2008. Though James Hansen of NASA says sea level will rise 246 feet, sea level has not risen since the beginning of 2006. Sea level rose just 8 inches in the 20th century and has been rising at just 1 ft/century since 1993.

image

Since Al Gore’s climate movie An Inconvenient Truth was launched in January 2005, global cooling has occurred at the equivalent of 10F (5.5C) per century. If this rapid cooling were to continue, the Earth would be in an Ice Age by 2100.

image

The UN’s climate panel, the IPCC, had projected temperature increases at 4.5 to 9.5F (2.4 to 5.3C) per century, with a central estimate of 7F (3.9C) per century. None of the IPCC’s computer models had predicted a prolonged cooling.

The IPCC’s estimates of growth in atmospheric CO2 concentration are excessive. They assume CO2 concentration will rise exponentially from today’s 385 parts per million to reach 730 to 1020 ppm, central estimate 836 ppm, by 2100. However, for seven years, CO2 concentration has been rising in a straight line towards just 575 ppmv by 2100. This alone halves the IPCC’s temperature projections.

Sea ice extent in the Arctic recovered to the 30-year average during the early winter of 2008. In the Antarctic, sea ice extent reached a record high late in 2007, and has remained plentiful since. Global sea ice extent shows no trend for 30 years.

The Accumulated Cyclone Energy Index is a 24-month running sum of monthly energy levels in all hurricanes, typhoons and tropical cyclones. The Accumulated Cyclone Energy Index hit a 30-year low in October 2008.

‘Dire warming’ fears prompt Obama to look at ‘shooting pollution particles’ into atmosphere to cool

By Seth Borenstein, AP

The president’s new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth’s air.

John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.

“It’s got to be looked at,” he said. “We don’t have the luxury of taking any approach off the table.”

Holdren outlined several “tipping points” involving global warming that could be fast approaching. Once such milestones are reached, such as complete loss of summer sea ice in the Arctic, it increases chances of “really intolerable consequences,” he said. Read more here.

Redoubt has thrown SO2 which gets converted rapidly to sulfate aerosols as high as 65,000 feet in the numerous eruptions the last few weeks. This is well into stratosphere in the polar regions. Airline pilots have indicated the smell of sulphur near Alaska.

“There is no way costly mitigation measures will have a meaningful effect on the climate”

By Professor Will Alexander

An extremely serious situation has developed. The whole climate change issue is about to fall apart. Heads will roll.

I have followed the observation theory route. After a prolonged and diligent study of one of the largest and most comprehensive hydrometeorological databases in the world, I have been unable to detect the postulated changes in the hydrometeorological processes against the background of natural variability. If I found them I had a professional responsibility to report them. I had an equal responsibility to report it if they were not present.

I also have an extensive knowledge of natural environmental conditions in southern Africa in all its moods. I have been unable to detect any of the alarmist claims of desertification or damage to the indigenous plant or animal species claimed by climate change scientists.

Over the years I have demonstrated a predictable periodicity in hydrological processes and its synchronous linkage with sunspot activity. Together with four co-authors we have gone even further and related these linkages to the sun’s wobble as it moves along its trajectory through galactic space.

This movement results in changes in the earth to the sun distance and corresponding variations in received solar energy. We were able to demonstrate that these variations in received solar energy were considerably larger than the variations due to greenhouse gas emissions.

Not only do our studies completely negate the claims made by climate change scientists, but we can demonstrate with a high degree of assurance that all the proposed measures to limit greenhouse gas emissions will be an exercise in futility. There is no way whatsoever that the costly mitigation measures will have a meaningful effect on the world’s climate. Read much more of this very candid and important analysis with many references here.

“The G2O economic way forward is now a two-legged stool”

By Piers Corbyn astrophysicist

"The G2O economic way forward is now a two-legged stool. The two legs of stable financial markets and free trade are being sold along with the third - broken leg - of climate change hype which is not actually about defending the world public but about the creation of new bubble of false value around carbon trading, carbon taxes, carbon fixing and phoney jobs; and controlling the world energy supply and third world development through the very financial system which has just failed.

“One can only admire the dexterity with which the oil compnies - who have positioned themselves both as the ‘enemy’ to be paraded against by ‘green’ campaigns while at the same time arranging themselves to be the principle beneficiaries of the most extreme climate change hype which is used to prepare for massive mad carbon fixing schemes and energy price hikes from which they would profit and increase asset values.”

Icecap Note: It seems very appropriate the G20 nations are meeting to talk about climate change and the world economic crises on April Fools Day. The world’s modern day version of environmentalists and clueless economists like Nicholas Stern have been trying to (fortunately with decreasing success) convince the world the time for action to address man made global warming is quickly running out even as the earth cools, the ocean heat content declines, sea levels stop rising. The real sand in the hourglass is running out on them. For without major action, when the global cooling has to be admitted to, their theory will be fully falsified and the world’s people will turn on them, hopefully with major class action suits to recover their losses. The best option for our congress and G20 as Lord Monckton said in testimony to the US congress would be to have the courage to take NO action.

“global warming is accelerating beyond the worst predictions threatening “irreversible changes"”

By Jan Olsen, AP

Hundreds of leading scientists warned Thursday that global warming is accelerating beyond the worst predictions and threatening to trigger “irreversible” climate shifts on the planet.  Saying there’s no excuse for inaction, the nearly 2,000 climate researchers meeting in Copenhagen urged policy-makers to “vigorously” implement the economic and technological tools available to cut emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases.

Their stark message came at the end of a three-day conference aimed at updating the findings of a 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change before U.N. talks in December on a new global climate treaty.  “The worst-case IPCC scenario trajectories (or even worse) are being realized,” the scientists said in a statement. “There is a significant risk that many of the trends will accelerate, leading to an increasing risk of abrupt or irreversible climatic shifts.”

The climate change panel predicted a sea level rise of 7 to 23 inches by the end of the century, which could flood low-lying areas and force millions to flee. But more recent research presented at the conference suggested that melting glaciers and ice sheets could help push the sea level up at least 20 inches, and possibly as much as 39 inches, or about 1 meter.

“Recent observations show that societies are highly vulnerable to even modest levels of climate change with poor nations and communities particularly at risk,” the statement said.  It noted that policy-makers already have a range of tools to mitigate global warming. “But they must be vigorously and widely implemented to achieve the societal transformation required to de-carbonize economies,” it said.  The conclusions of the congress will be presented to politicians when they meet in Copenhagen in December to discuss a new global agreement on greenhouse gas emissions to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

“We know from scientific evidence that climate change is a reality and that climate change will have damaging effects on the economy all over the world,” said Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, one of the politicians attending the scientific conference. “Therefore we need an agreement and we need an agreement this year. Earlier Thursday, British economist Nicholas Stern, the author of a major British government report detailing the cost of climate change, told the conference that the global recession presents an opportunity to build a more energy-efficient economy.

“Coming out of this we have got to lay the foundations for a low-carbon growth, which is going to be like the railways, like the electricity, like the motorcars, this is going to be over the next two, three decades the big driver in investment,” Stern said.  Stern said green investments make sense because energy-efficient economies will be more sustainable in the future.  “We know from this crisis that if we postpone looking risk in the face, it will bite us much more deeply,” he said.”

NOTHING BUT TOTAL FABRICATION. See here how both the CO2 acceleration and temperature changes are far below the LOWEST of the scenarios from the IPCC. Sea levels have slowed or stopped in their rising that has been ongoing since the last ice age. The antarctic ice reached a new record in 2008 and is above normal this year. The summer 2008 arctic ice was 9% greater than in 2007 and was among the high end of the winter years this decade this winter. This is clearly scientific fraud. The “2500 of the worlds leading scientiists early presented has become hundreds of leading scientists trying to outdo each other for the biggest newsbreaking lie.  Even the new 2000 number is a fabrication, probably including wives, drooling reporters and maybe wait staff at the hotel.” The AP and the science have fallen so low it is unimaginable.

SPPI’s Monthly CO2 Report shows that throughout the eight years of George Bush’s presidency there has been a downtrend in global temperature at a rate equivalent to 2 F (1.1 C) per century. See how it is far below even the lowest IPCC projection.

See larger image here.

Since Al Gore’s climate movie An Inconvenient Truth was launched in January 2005, global cooling has occurred at the equivalent of 11 F (6 C) per century. If this very rapid cooling were to continue, the Earth would be in an Ice Age by 2100.

They assume CO2 concentration will rise exponentially from today’s 385 parts per million to reach 730 to 1020 ppm, central estimate 836 ppm, by 2100. However, during President Bush’s eight-year term, CO2 concentration rose in a straight line towards just 575 ppmv by 2100. This alone halves the IPCC’s temperature projections.

And finally the fingerprint of the greenhouse effect is warm air in the middle to high atmosphere. The NIPCC report shows that is not there and thus the models these ‘scientists’ are basing thier projections on are falsified.

“…they want to turn the light out on human civilization…”

By Art Horn, Icecap Meteorologist

"I could not help but chuckle at the irony of earth hours method of getting their message across. By turning off lights around the world they showed people exactly what they want. They want to turn the light out on human civilization. The wish to stop progress, to pull back humans desire to better our world. Instead of light that allows us to see truth clearly they choose darkness, to hide their true intentions.”

To which Paul Biggs of Climate Research News added: “Earth Hour is a good demonstration of what will happen very soon if energy policy continues to be strangled by futile attempts to control the weather/climate using the harmless, essential, naturally occurring, aerial plant food gas CO2.”

And as one poster on Anthony Watt’s Watts Up With That said so well “I will be thinking about the 1.8 billion people on Earth who have no access to electricity, and how insane they must think we are.”

To which Svend Hendricksen of Greenland responded with this link.

And interestingly the Nashville Post went by Al Gore’s house located in the posh Belle Meade section of Nashville, at 8:48pm - right in the middle of Earth Hour. I found that the main spotlights that usually illuminate his 9,000 square foot mansion were dark, but several of the lights inside the house were on. In fact, most of the windows were lit by the familiar blue-ish hue indicating that floor lamps and ceiling fixtures were off, but TV screens and computer monitors were hard at work. The kicker, though, were the dozen or so floodlights grandly highlighting several trees and illuminating the driveway entrance of Gore’s mansion. I [kid] you not, my friends, the savior of the environment couldn’t be bothered to turn off the gaudy lights that show off his goofy trees.”
