John McLean
Michael Fox died very recently after a long battle with cancer. I think he deserves a mention on ICECAP and I hope you will too.
An article at Hawaii Reporter talks about him. We at Icecap were big fans of Michael Fox
Here’s a couple of paragraphs from the start of the article
----------
When Nuclear Scientist, Dr. Michael R. Fox, first contacted Hawaii Reporter several years ago, the then Kaneohe resident was concerned that the public was not getting the correct information about such controversial science topics as man made global warming, sea levels, sun spots, nuclear science, nuclear power, solar and windmills.
He was passionate about changing this by publicizing real science, and as a result, launched a column called Fox Energy and Environment Reports in Hawaii Reporter in 2003.
Mike wrote dozens of articles over the years that comforted scientists and many conservatives with his exposes on what he called corrupt and phony science and he angered many man made global warming believers. He took no prisoners when it came to taking on powerful people like former Vice President Al Gore and the claims Gore made about climate change.
More recently, Mike’s family notes that he became a strong advocate for the position that “global climate change is a natural phenomenon which is not influenced by any human activity,” and one of his favorite sayings was “Everybody is entitled to his own opinion: No one is entitled to his own facts.”
-----------------
Maurice Strong, senior advisor to Kofi Annan, U.N. Secretary-General who chaired the gigantic (40,000 participants) “U.N. Conference on Environment and Development” in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 , who was responsible for putting together the Kyoto Protocol with thousands of bureaucrats, diplomats, and politicians, stated: “We may get to the point where the only way of saving the world will be for industrial civilization to collapse….isn’t it our job to bring that about”
Timothy Wirth, U.S. Undersecretary of State for Global Issues, seconded Strong’s statement: “We have got to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing in terms of economic policy and environmental policy.”
Richard Benedick, a deputy assistant secretary of state who headed policy divisions of the U.S. State Department, stated: “A global warming treaty must be implemented even if there is no scientific evidence to back the [enhanced] greenhouse effect.”
Peter Menzies in the Calgary Herald, Christine Stewart, former Canadian Environment Minister for the Liberal Party of Canada, said in 1998 that “No matter if the science is all phoney, there are collateral environmental benefits”
IPCC official Ottmar Edenhofer in November 2010 admitted “one has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy.” Instead, climate change policy is about how “we redistribute de facto the world’s wealth...”

One hero
Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, visited Australia in July 2011. In referring to the ideological orientations of those individuals and organisations who have significant financial and other vested interests in propagating the ‘Doctrine’ of anthropogenic induced climate change, President Klaus said: “They want to change us, to change our behaviour, our way of life, our values and preferences, they want to restrict our freedom because they themselves believe they know what is good for us. They are not interested in climate. They misuse the climate in their goal to restrict our freedom. What is endangered is freedom, the climate is okay."After noting that today’s human-induced climate change alarmists are the ideological descendents of the zero and negative population growth advocates of the 1970s who erroneously forecast that human population pressures would lead to increases in global poverty and growing shortages in resources, President Klaus went on to add: “They hate us, the humans, they consider us selfish and sinful creatures who must be controlled by them. I used to live in a similar world - called communism - and I know that it led to the worst environmental damage the world has ever experienced.”

Neglected truths of climate change
By Walter Starck
September 9, 2011
When contentious issues become long standing and widely discussed their public debate tends to become fixated on particular understandings of certain issues.
Ancillary matters that should be of obvious importance often seem to be strangely ignored. The public debate over climate change is rife with such neglected considerations. Here is a selection of a few of the more obvious ones. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED READING!!!

The less intelligent alarmists have written a paper allegedly connecting the scientists to Exxon Mobil. Here is the detailed response from some of the featured scientists. Note that though this continues to be a knee jerk reaction by some of the followers, there is no funding of skeptic causes by big oil BUT Exxon has funded Stanford warmists to the tune of $100 million and BP UC Berkeley to $500,000,000. Climategate emails showed CRU/Hadley soliciting oil dollars and receiving $23,000,000 in funding.

Climategate II: The Climategate emails continue to reveal a number of questionable activities by “the hockey-stick team” to personally attack, or discredit, those who question their findings. This new batch of emails resulted in renewed efforts of the local police to find the leaker, including the seizure of computers and demand for email correspondence from service providers. This should have been expected.
What is unusual is a demand by the US Department of Justice for email correspondence from three bloggers who are well known skeptics, Donna LaFramboise (NFC) and Steve McIntyre (Climate Audit) in Canada and Roger Tattersall (Tallbloke) in England. What prompted the demand is not yet known. The US public would be better served if the Department of Justice was enforcing Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to US government agencies such as NOAA and the Department of Energy, which funds the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, a center for the Climategate tricks. The FOIs, such as one to NOAA by Chris Horner of the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) in January 2010, are requests of public records held by government agencies for which there is are no authority to withhold or stonewall.
These continuing developments give rise to further questions as to the principles held by the defenders of the University of Virginia in opposing the release of emails from Michael Mann. The defenders claim that such a release will be chilling to academic freedom. As of yet, they are not defending the academic freedom of independent researchers and investigators. Unless they do so, they will be presuming that employees of public universities working with public funds have a greater right, or privilege, to privacy than those who privately explore the same issues with private funds, often self-funded.

DeSmogBlog climate hoax promoter Richard Littlemore to Michael Mann, 2007: “I am out of my depth (as I am sure you have noticed: we’re all about PR here, not much about science)”
Email 35
Hi Michael [Mann],
I’m a DeSmogBlog writer [Richard LIttlemore] (I got your email from Kevin Grandia) and I am trying to fend off the latest announcement that global warming has not actually occurred in the 20th century.
It looks to me like Gerd Burger is trying to deny climate change by “smoothing,” “correcting” or otherwise rounding off the temperatures that we know for a flat fact have been recorded since the 1970s, but I am out of my depth (as I am sure you have noticed: we’re all about PR here, not much about science) so I wonder if you guys have done anything or are going to do anything with Burger’s intervention in Science.
Dr. Stewart Franks
A Newcastle University professor, whose research questions the science behind climate change says he feels vindicated by recent leaked emails from an international expert on the subject.
Stewart Franks says there is no evidence that carbon dioxide drives global warming and he blames the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for scaring people about a future climate catastrophe.
For the past decade Professor Franks has focussed his research on natural variability in climate as being the driver of extreme droughts and rain events, rather that CO2 emissions.
He says the emails from Kevin Trenberth from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, show fundamental flaws in their methodology, but the public is being kept in the dark.
Professor Franks says he believes the emails support his own argument that natural variability is responsible for warming.
“Now I’ve been criticised for talking about these modes that we’ve barely beginning to understand as somehow being some kind of a denier of climate change or a pure contrarian,” he said.
“But it is really heartening to see that these scientists actually acknowledge and in fact one scientist went as far as to say ‘What if all the warming we actually see is just natural multi-decadal variability?’
“He then said, ‘They’ll probably kill us’.
“I think we do need an independent and judicial review of the evidence both for and against the likelihood of climate change beyond naturally catastrophic climate variability.
“I must say the IPCC is far too sullied by the leaks and some of the shenanigans that the emails show have be going on.
“It is now too sullied to be credible.”
Dear Attendees of COP-17:
On Tuesday, November 29th, in a seminar organized by Penn State University and the University of Washington on the ethical dimensions of climate change join us to look at two issues.
One, an ethical analysis of the climate change disinformation campaign. We will examine whether this is a new kind of crime against humanity?
Second, we will look at the piratical significance for negotiations in Durban if climate change is understood to create human rights violations.

Ed Cook critical of Trenberth’s arrogance in emails

Now here’s an interesting mini-point. We all know that wind turbines don’t work when the wind isn’t blowing, which can be pretty annoying if you want to cook your Christmas dinner and the country is beset by an eery calm. So you need to maintain other methods of generating electricity to step in when the blades aren’t turning. Right now, that generally means fossil-fuel generation - gas or coal. You turn it on when the wind isn’t blowing, and off when the turbines are making juice. Simple and efficient, eh?
Not quite. Bentek Energy, an energy market analytics and data company in Colorado, points out that you can’t just turn a fossil-fuel power station on and off. If you do, you find that the emissions caused by the thermal inefficiencies when you are warming up and cooling down outweigh the reductions in emissions from the wind generators themselves. You would be better to run the coal-fire stations at their efficient level all the time.
So you might think that wind turbines are a good way to reduce carbon emissions. Actually, they are a good way to increase carbon emissions!

“‘Snowtober’ fits U.N. climate change predictions”
While the Northeast is still reeling from a surprise October snowstorm that has left more than a million people without power for days, the United Nations is about to release its latest document on adaptation to climate change.
The report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is expected conclude that there is a high probability that man-made greenhouse gases already are causing extreme weather that has cost governments, insurers, businesses and individuals billions of dollars. And it is certain to predict that costs due to extreme weather will rise and some areas of the world will become more perilous places to live.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/
Complete bullshit. They predicted the exact opposite.
IPCC Draft 1995
A “striking” retreat of mountain glaciers around the world, accompanied in the Northern Hemisphere by a shrinking snow cover in winter.
http://www.nytimes.com/
IPCC 2001 15.2.4.1.2.4. Ice Storms
Milder winter temperatures will decrease heavy snowstorms
The alarmist climate science community seems to be incapable of ever telling the truth about anything. I posted the IPCC links in the comment section of the LA Times article, and they were taken down within five minutes. The last thing these people want is an honest discussion.
